About Hoċokata Ti Cultural Center

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) owns and operates Hoċokata Ti, the tribe’s cultural center and gathering space that also features a 3,850-square-foot public exhibit and a public gift shop.

PUBLIC EXHIBIT
Hoċokata Ti’s public exhibit, Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake, provides visitors with an experience that will enhance their knowledge and understanding of the Mdewakanton Dakota people and their history.

Whether guests prefer to explore the exhibit on their own or desire a group guided tour, Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake will provide guests with a traditional Mdewakanton Dakota experience unlike any other.

Bring history to life as one of our professional cultural interpreters guides your group through the exhibit and provide insight into the meaning behind the displays and artifacts. Our immersive and interactive exhibit gives visitors a better understanding of Mdewakanton lifeways that can’t be experienced through books. Plan your visit by filling out our request form at hocokatati.org/group-field-trips.
