The Minnesota Historical Society operates 26 historic sites across the state, offering an engaging experience for group tours of many interests and sizes. With special rates available for groups and free admission for group leaders and drivers at some locations, be sure to add one or more historic adventures to your itinerary!
MNHS historic sites are located in both urban and rural areas; include indoor museums and outdoor areas to survey; and cover a wide sweep of history, including sites that cover Native American history, the history of key industries and social movements, historic homes of notable Minnesotans, and historic sites with beautiful sweeping scenery.
Some of the most popular and notable sites include:
Minnesota History Center in St. Paul, home to MNHS and many engaging and interactive exhibits
Historic Fort Snelling, a site that has a Native American history from 10,000 years ago to today, and which played a role in U.S. national affairs from the Civil War to World War II
Mill City Museum, which documents the rise of Minneapolis and its world-leading flour milling industry
Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post near Lake Mille Lacs, which shares Ojibwe history and modern culture
Split Rock Lighthouse, perched high above Lake Superior, sharing Minnesota’s maritime tradition
James J. Hill House in St. Paul, a magnificent Victorian-era mansion built by a railroad owner who was one of the state’s leading businessmen
Forest History Center, which shares the state’s logging history and includes extensive trails and a fire tower
