Voyageur Environmental Center will be re-opening April 19th!
Celebrate “Earth Week” April 19-25 and experience/learn about our natural world with our environmental education programs. VEC offers environmental education programs to groups and families during spring and summer as well.
Bring your group to VEC and enjoy the great outdoors! VEC offers a guarded waterfront for swimming, fishing, and paddle sports. Take a hike in our woods on our newly installed Tree Trek. Try your hand at archery, shelter building, or build a fire to cook over.
* Celebrate Earth Week: The earth deserves more than just a day (April 22). VEC will offer special programming all week (April 19-25) to celebrate Earth Day. Groups looking to do environmentally themed service projects can partner with VEC as we will be focusing on projects that clean both our watersheds, fight invasive species, and clear area biking and hiking trails.
* Environmental Education: At VEC, we believe the earth deserves even more than a week! We provide year-round environmental education programming for schools and groups. Based on the award winning curriculum “Acclimatization”, we believe students need to experience nature hands on in order to appreciate it and care for it. As we explore our lake by canoe, hike our woods on a Tree Trek, get our hands and feet wet looking for aquatic invertebrates, or play a fun tag game of “predator-prey”, we learn the “7 secrets of our natural world”. With over 20 different classes to choose from, we can tailor our program to fit the needs of your group, whether it be a 4 hour outing, weekend stay, or 3-5 day experience.
* Outdoor Recreation: Love the water? So do we! Bring your group out to our private beach on Long Lake in Mound. We have trained Lifeguards on site for our swimming beach. We offer paddle sports (canoe, kayak, SUP) and have two 29-foot “voyageur canoes”. Or hold your very own fishing tourney. Your group will have exclusive access to our lake/beach and picnic area/dining area.
* Group Camping/Retreats: Voyageur is also open for groups to rent. We have 8 year-round cabins that sleep up to 14 people each. Our Food service facility allows for indoor dining of up to 36 people, with additional outdoor dining areas for up to 40 people. Our “Covid Exclusive Use Policy” means that your group will be only group on our facility during your stay. Exclusive access to our 110 acres, waterfront and recreation areas. Looking for a more rustic tent-camping experience? VEC is also available for groups of 12-48 to tent camp.
Our Commitment: “Keep It Safe” by following the standards of American Camp Association, CDC/MDH, and having qualified/trained staff; “Make It Fun” by providing fun outdoor educational/ recreational opportunities. Our philosophy is if a kid has fun outdoors, they will love and appreciate the outdoors, and desire to take care of our natural environment; “Active Every Day” as a way of achieving physical, mental, emotional health.
