We are pleased to offer you the rare opportunity to have the Dance Theatre of Harlem teach your students about ballet! This virtual lecture demonstration and its beautiful companion study guide are gifts from the dance company to your students at no charge. The lecture demonstration runs approximately 60 minutes and is perfect for grades 5-12. This virtual event is easy to share with students in your classroom, or at home and can be watched and rewatched as many times as you wish between Tue, Apr 27, and Tue, May 11!

Join members of the Dance Theatre of Harlem for a fun, accessible introduction to the art of ballet. In this lecture demonstration, the dancers pull back the curtain to reveal how the elements of classical ballet training, choreography, and theatrical production come together to create the magic of a ballet performance. The hour-long program is divided into three sections: a brief history of DTH and the art form of ballet, demonstrations of basic ballet training (barre, women’s pointe work, men’s center work, pirouettes, and lifts) and stagecraft, followed by four excerpts from the Dance Theatre of Harlem repertoire.
